Several years ago, a friend sent me seeds for “Jelly Bean” tomatoes. There were red ones and yellow ones. For a couple of years, I kept a big pot going in the greenhouse all winter and we had those little tomatoes year round. They were sweet as candy and we munched on them all the time. This past summer, I was saving my seeds . . had put them in a cup of water, and they got dumped and all my seeds were gone.
A few weeks ago, Vince asked if I had planted any more “jelly beans”. Nope . . no seeds! I order my seeds from Baker Creek and they didn’t have that variety.
Vince got online and found the red and yellow Jelly Beans at Seeds & Such and ordered a packet of each, along with Black Krim, which I have grown before, and something called “Sun Sugar”.
Yesterday I started a few seeds for each. Just planting four seeds of each variety gives us 16 more tomatoes. I already planted 18 so that’s 34. Tomatoes are about like baby chicks .. you can’t seem to have just a few.
In about July, I’ll start more seeds in cups, then transplant them to bigger pots so we’ll have tomatoes through the winter in the greenhouse.

When relating your adventures to my husband, I refer to you as ‘ Judy in Texas’. I really enjoy your blog. My husband has a degree from Clemson and I got My masters there as well as part of my undergraduate degree. It was something to see Seeds n Such tomato seeds. My husband had worked for them years ago- writing catalogs for them and even wrote one while we were living in NEw Zealand. He still write the blogs and does the booklets for them. And to show how small this world is,Wayne Hilton, owner,is a Georgia Tech graduate and their biggest supporter. We will have to get some of those jelly beans.

I love little tomatoes! My grandmother and I use to watch them turn and get them before mother discovered us in the garden. I loved tomatoes as much as I loved my Grandmother and all those wonderful memories.

And if you were queen, you could say, “Let them eat tomatoes!” That sounds like such a great variety. We already eat small grape and cherry tomatoes like candy, so I should try some of those!

Okay, so now I ask. It says it’s a hybrid tomato, but you mentioned saving seeds. Do you get a good sprouting percentage from them? And they run true to the original seed?
