When Vince writes his blog post, he does it in Word or something different from just typing it into the blog. He sends it to me in email. I copy/paste it into the blog and read it as I’m going through it. Do you know how hard it is for me not to “edit” it by inserting my rebuttal? :)Reading yesterday’s post, I was grinning through the whole thing. Want vs. need? I feel pretty certain the subject of yarn may have been on his mind while writing that post. Did I just order two kits to make one project? What would he say if he knew I did that? It isn’t like I really intended to make two projects but mini skeins are pretty useful and you might say I “collect” them. The Madelinetosh unicorn tails are single ply. I pretty much only use single ply for shawls but sometimes you need just a splash of color and you don’t want to wind a whole skein and use just a part of it when using a part of a mini-skein works great. Miss Babs’ Yummy 2-Ply Toes – as the name implies, is great for when you want different colored heels and toes on socks. I can use that for any project where fingering weight is used.
I know his comment about the new car may have been directed at me. Our Highlander is 12 years old. His Honda is 18 years old and his pickup is 22 years old. Yes! I would put a new car into the “need” category, especially as much as I’m on the road by myself. The only reason I don’t sit down today and say “Honey! I’m going to go buy a car. Do you want to come with me or shall I pick it out myself?” is that we have a carport and Cat sleeps on my car and what better place to sharpen her claws that the rubber parts of my car! Gaskets around the sun roof, the windows . . it’s not good!
Speaking of cars, the other day we were going to Chick-Fil-A and we pass right by the Toyota dealer. Vince said “Do you want to stop and look at the new Highlanders?” Our doctor’s office is right across the street and I wanted to say “Quick! Let’s go see the doctor!” He does agree it’s time for a new car but with the carport issue, we’re hoping to wait on the car til we get a garage.
Even though I thought his post was funny, he wasn’t directing it at me. I know what he’s been thinking and in my case, if the shoe fits . . wear it. I know I need less yarn. I’m actually doing way better than I’ve done in the past but I need to do even better.
And, in Vince’s favor, I must say that he has unbelievably improved his buying habits. He’s the one who, if he needed one of something, then ten was better. I can’t tell you how many times we stood in a store and I would say “Where are we going to put all that?”
Speaking of not ordering, we hardly ever see our UPS driver. There was a time when he came to our house almost every day. We sometimes go weeks and weeks without UPS coming by here. That’s only because the mail lady brings the yarn! 🙂
