I’ve just ordered a couple of books from Amazon that I wanted to share.
First, Letters to My Grandchild.
There are 12 pages, each with a prompt for ideas to write things to your grandchild. Then each page folds up to look like an envelope and you write the date on which you’d like for the grandchild to open them . . probably when they’re an adult and can appreciate your thoughts and feelings. This one came today and I guess I understand why, but just reading the questions made me cry. So much I’d like to say to Addie . . things she can read when I’m gone. Even more, it makes me wish so much that I had spent more time with my grandma, and that I had gotten more information from her and that she had written down EVERYTHING so I’d have all her knowledge and wisdom now.
The second one is Grandmother’s Journal. This one hasn’t arrived yet but from reading about it at Amazon, it looks like there are numerous questions per page and it is intended for fairly small snippets to be written – three or four lines per question.
If you’re halfway interested in this book, read the reviews. They’re amazing and compelling. Several folks mentioned that they were given this book when their first grandchild was born . . what a great gift to give to a new grandmother.
I am so excited to get started with these two projects and hopefully some day, I’ll have a second grandchild (NO! I’m not breaking any news . . it doesn’t seem to be going to happen soon!) and I can do something similar for #2. There are quite a few different books similar to these.
