The extra skeins of gray yarn that I ordered for Vince’s sweater arrived a day or so ago. They’re very close to matching but it isn’t a perfect match.
That’s a chance you take when it’s almost two full years between dye lots.
I kinda feel like my eyes are deceiving me. Do you see a difference? Skein on the right is old; skein on the left is new. I almost see a difference in the twist too but, again, I can’t be sure.
These are a couple of pictures I edited with filters.
I could alternate skeins and that might blend it in enough, if there even is a difference. It’s surprising what a big difference a little bit of difference can make.
Tell me . . do you see a difference in those two skeins?

I can see a slight difference can u swatch them and see if it shows up! I haven’t been on recently due to life’s busy matters so don’t really know background on this. I really love the color though and wonder if when it’s done if it will be noticeable at all. Great choice!

I can’t see enough to make a difference to me. But you are the one who will be looking at it when finished. Maybe use them in the back part mixed in then you want see them as much. Just a thought.

I forget which pattern you’ve chosen. If it’s in pieces, perhaps you could use them for the sleeves and button bands. With the seams any small differences wouldn’t be apparent.

The skein on the right looks a bit more blue to me, but that could be a computer screen thing too. Maybe if you swatch them, alternating two or three rows at a time. If there are obvious stripes, you’ll know!

I think the left one is a bit more gray. I wanted to let you know that I am going to be making this sweater/cardigan too. My yarn hasn’t got here yet, its going to be a heather green.
Laura says
Yes, the yarn on the right has more blue in it.

I see a slight difference but wonder if it has anything to do with how they are skeined. But such a slight difference you should be able to incorporate the new ones without any trouble
Elizabeth J Moubray says
The left skein is more gray, the right one is more blue. It also might be that the light could be more focused on the right skein.
Jean says
…definitely a difference. Will they knit together so it isn’t noticeable? It appears as if that may be possible! Or perhaps make the back with one dye lot and the front and sleeves with another?

I can see a color difference, but not a twist difference. I think the idea of a twist difference comes from the angle of the yarn at the bottom of the skein on the left as it sits against the skein on the right. When you compare the twist in the middle of the skein, they look the same. (at least on the computer screen…)
Joyce says
If you are making the sweater in pieces and there is enough of the new yarn, you could use it for the back of the sweater. People may be able to see a subtle difference between the back and the sleeves, but it won’t be very noticeable.

Open the skeins up Judy and then twist them together. You will be able to see if they will blend then.
Nelle Coursey says
I see a very slight difference in them but I think you can blend them in and they will be fine. Also you might turn one of them around because there is a different light on them when you switch the way the threads are going. Does that make sense?? LOL But it could just be a light thing and not being able to tell. I think if you have two strings you can put together and see if they match. And with the little difference I don’t think anyone but you could tell the difference in them.
Judy Laquidara says
It may not even be a noticeable difference and I won’t know for sure til I do a swatch.
dezertsuz says
The one on the right is slightly lighter, or maybe a little bluer, but I would think that the difference is so slight, it wouldn’t be any kind of issue. I think you can work them in someway. Is this a top down sweater?
Mary Lee Moeny says
The right one has more blue than the left. I’m new to knitting; not sure how you might intermingle them. Keep me posted.
Laura says
Left: more gray, darker, more muted
Right: more blue, lighter, brighter
Kay L Fod-Sollimo says
I agree with others that the one on the right seems a wee bit lighter, but not very noticeable. Consider choosing do use the lesser amount as the back. My guess is that after soaking and blocking no one would find a difference at all.
