But what about when you’re trying to match up yarns, like that fade cardigan, or Addie’s teacher’s cowl? Will you just tell yourself to “make it work” and choose the best of what is available?
I’ve thought a lot about that and I’m not saying I’ll never buy another skein of yarn. I will. I know I will . . but I want to buy about 99% fewer skeins than I’ve been buying.
If Addie calls and tells me she wants an orange and green spider sweater . . all bets are off because I wold buy an entire yarn store if that’s what she wanted . . provided I could sneak it all in without Vince noticing! 🙂
As far as something like the fade project – no! I will not allow myself to plan any project that I know I do not have the yarn to make. Suppose I see a sweater that I just have to make and it needs 9 skeins of DK weight yarn. I find in my stash two or more skeins I can add in to make strips, or make cuffs/ribbing different colored so it will work with what I have here.
The teacher gift – that was my fault. I wrote her and asked her what colors she likes to wear. If I had not done that, I would have been happy to make her gift any two colors I could find in my stash.
This feels like a challenge to myself and I love a good challenge so I know I can do this!
