I’ve mentioned it here before but I’ve never been a cat lady . . I didn’t dislike them I guess, but I just never wanted one. Along came Boots and he should have been a dog because he’s so sweet and he comes when I call him and he seems to understand “NO”. I love him.
But, Cat! Oh my goodness, that cat has to be the most obstinate creature in the world. I am more intrigued with trying to befriend her but every day I look at her and think . . if you would just be a little nicer! But, she’s a feral cat that we’ve halfway tamed. She’s probably never going to be a loving, snuggly cat but I do believe she loves us . . especially Vince.
She has gone from living in the woods with zero human interaction to hunting a little and eating food provided by us as a supplement to a picky eater who will not accept any change in her diet.
Vince has been feeding her some inexpensive Walmart food. Boots had been eating and loving a salmon flavored Taste of the Wild food and I bought big bags of it but one day he decided he didn’t want that any more. He actually was getting kinda scrawny looking because he just wasn’t eating. The vet suggested trying a couple of different foods. He seemed to love Merrick Backcountry Raw Infused Game Bird formula. Our local feed store can only get 3 pound bags and Boots goes through those pretty quickly so I ordered 10 pound bags from Chewy.
Vince said he would give the Taste of the Wild to Cat so yesterday morning he put about 1/4 of the Taste of the Wild, with 3/4 cup of Cat’s regular food. Vince said she sniffed it and started meowing really loudly . . wouldn’t eat any of it. He went back to talk to her and she just kept meowing . . like she was saying “I do NOT want this!” He took her bowl, dumped it and gave her just her old food and she gobbled it up.
That cat thinks she rules this place. I’ve never seen anything like it.
