It’s funny, at least to me, how my knitting desires seem to run in cycles. The desire to start something new is ever present but it seems there are periods when my focus seems to be on certain types of things.
For several months, I wanted to finish older projects and got quite a few of them done. It didn’t matter if it was socks, sweaters, shawls . . I just wanted to finish things.
Hopefully today I’ll finish the Blue Sand Cardigan and that’s one I started in 2015. That’s way longer than any project should linger unfinished.
Shown above is the Adventurer Scarf that I started in February and Finished in September.
Then, I seemed to wanted to knit sweaters but several of those were sweaters that had been sitting around for a while.
Skokafjall was started in February and finished in September.
I must include the unicorn sweater that was started in November, 2019 and finished in September, 2019.
There are still well over a dozen, but not two dozen, projects that need to be finished.
I feel myself wanting to knit shawls and cowls again. In 2018, shawls were all I wanted to make for the longest time, then for most of this year, I had no desire at all to knit a shawl and I wondered if I ever would want to make one again. What makes us more drawn to certain things, and then that interest wanes and a passion for something else seems to move into the void.
For 2020, I want to make a list of the things I’d like to knit. Will I stick with what’s on that list? Probably not but I do love making lists and at least if I have the list, with the yarn that I’m wanting to use, maybe when I feel the need to start a new project, I won’t find a new pattern and order yarn if I have my list of potential projects right in front of me. If, at this time next year, I haven’t knit anything on the list, it isn’t really going to bother me but if it helps me stay on track, that will be great.
I’m going to work on what I want to work on; the things that make me happy, and not feel pressured to work on something just because it’s on my list or finish a project just because it was started a while back. The only thing that seems to guide me to finishing older projects is the need to free up knitting needles. How’s that for motivation?
Do you have any plans or 2020 as far as your crafting or things you want to get done?
